The Basics
What's on each page and how can I learn on-line.

What's on each page.

The Video - On each of our beginner move pages you will find a video teaching that individual move. The video starts with a run through of the move, so that you can see what it looks like, then continues to teach you the move step by step and finally finishes off with another run through to a slow count so that you can try the move up to speed.

The Notes - On each page you will also see some notes. These are the things that our experience of teaching classes tell us are most likely to go wrong, cause confusion or be misinterpreted. Hopefully we will be able to make you aware if you are succumbing to any of the faults and explain how to fix them.

When you know more than one more you need to add them together - All of the beginner pages on this site teach the individual moves in their basic form for ease of use. You will  find on some occasions that you will need to change the end of a move slightly so that it can be added on to the next move that you want to do. For example the move may finish with the man holding his partner with his left hand where as, to add on the next move, he will need to be holding with his right hand. If this is the case, don't worry, learn the move the way it is taught then refer to the linking moves together page to explain how to change hands smoothly ready for the next move.

None of this is a replacement for going to a  Modern Jive class and trying it out for real.

Learning to dance from the comfort of your own home may be more convenient and private but it doesn't even come close to going to a class night to meet  and dance with new people and take in the atmosphere and music.

While learning these moves on-line will give you considerable knowledge of how to dance it can not teach you why you should dance, so go to a class near you and try it out. After all what is the point of learning to dance at home and then having nowhere to put in to practice all that you have learnt.

If you are still a little unsure about taking the plunge and going out to a regular night for the first time just take a look at our Beginners Survival Guide. Not only will it quash any possible excuse that you could think of for not going it will also try to answer all of those uneasy questions that may be floating around in your mind.
