Beginner Moves

Move 1 = Armjive        Move 2 = Side to Side       Move 3 = Step Across

Intermediate Moves

Move 1 = Yo Yo Backslide = beats 1, 2 & 3 as per a normal Yo Yo. Men take a step to your right as you transfer the lady’s hand from your right to your left over your head. Men take another small step to your right as you pull down with your left hand – if you look over your left shoulder your lady should be diagonally to the left behind you. Men take a big step back onto the side that you started on as you pull and raise your left hand to return the ladies – ladies step forward changing sides as you turn to your left. Face your partner.

Move 2 = Basket Elbow Spin = Beats 1, 2 & 3 as per a normal Basket. Men as you cradle your partner forwards let go with your right hand and place the palm of your right hand on to the inside of your partners right elbow. Men let go with your left hand as you nudge your partner with your right shoulder to unwrap her clockwise leaving your right hand on the ladies right elbow. As the ladies come around to face the man’s right hand should act as a break which stops you when you are facing each other. Men, throw your right hand over to the right, letting go, to spin your lady anti-clockwise. Catch man’s left to lady’s right.

Move 3 = First Move Penguin Walk = Beats 1, 2 and 3 as per a normal First Move. Men, lead your ladies forwards so that you rock forwards onto your left foot, ladies right foot, facing each other in a ballroom dance style of hold. You then both rock your weight from foot to foot another 3 times (men = right, left, right – ladies = left, right, left ) At that point you have both rocked your weight from foot to foot a total of 4 times. Those 4 steps should be done on just 2 beats and as you rock from foot to foot you should both rotate clockwise. This means that the men are travelling forwards pulling their partner forwards as you both rotate. When you have completed the 4 steps, men, pivot the ladies out to the right and you should be in the same First Move position that you were in on beat 3. Finish like a normal First Move.

Move 4 = Neckbreak Duck and Shoulder Spin = Step back man’s left to lady’s right – men signalling with your right arm in an ‘L’ shape at shoulder height. Both step in so that your partner is on your right hand side, men taking your left hand up near your left shoulder while you take your right hand over the lady’s left shoulder with your palm facing the floor so that you can see your fingertips as you look behind the lady’s head – your right hand/arm should not be in contact with the ladies at this point. Men throw your left hand across to the right in front of the ladies – letting go to turn the ladies out to the side so that you are both facing the same way, men place your left hand onto the lady’s left shoulder and your right hand on her right shoulder. Men twist the ladies forwards slightly to her left. Men push away and let go with your left hand as you push down and pull with your right hand (pointing your right elbow to the ceiling) keeping your right hand on the lady’s shoulder to turn her one and a half times in a clockwise direction, ladies you must duck your head under the man’s arm as you turn. As the ladies come round to face, men use your right hand as a block on her shoulder to stop her from turning. Men pull and let go with your right hand to spin the ladies in an anti-clockwise direction. Catch right to right and step back.

Ladies step behind your man as men raise both hands out together over the lady’s head to turn her in an anti-clockwise direction. Step back to face each other with a crossed handhold. Men slide your left hand (with the lady’s right hand) up the lady’s left arm and onto her left shoulder, as you step behind her to swap sides as you raise your right hand over her head – ladies you start to turn to your right. Once you are back on the side that you started from, men open up your right hand so you are palm to palm with the lady’s left hand at shoulder height – at this point you are rather snug with the man’s left arm around behind the lady’s head. Men push down and away with your right hand – letting go – as you raise your left hand to unwrap the ladies 2 turns in an anti-clockwise direction. Step back to face.
